Born and raised in rural Alberta, Susan Parcels began a career in Nursing in 1980. In 1993, after seeing a willow chair in a home and garden magazine, Susan found her ‘love of willow' and pursued a second passion. Starting with small twigs and a course in willow basketry, the passion flourished to include much larger sticks, producing swings, chairs, loveseats and large garden pieces. She established Blue Mesa Art Studio in 1995, and has produced many pieces for retail and charity auctions.

After providing weekend workshops for other willow furniture enthusiasts, she has authored this ‘how-to' book that illustrates the production of many popular projects. She began to blend her designs with other mediums including stained glass, barn boards, copper, sheet metal and hypertufa. Susan's willow pieces and stain glass work have adorned a movie set, garden centre displays, nature centers, churches and homes throughout Alberta and Western Canada. “ I needed a how-to book when this passion seized me; I hope that other afflicted 'twig trappers' will find my journey helpful.”
